Nowadays, many images are uploaded online every day. As a creator, it's crucial to take responsibility for protecting your work and ensuring that no one uses it without permission. Unfortunately, we've all seen how some people use someone else's intellectual property without their knowledge or agreement, and this can have a negative impact.
Keeping track of everything online is virtually impossible, and as an artist, you likely have better things to do. Adding additional watermarks may work, but it's not the most effective option, especially if someone skilled in image editing decides to use your work without permission – they may try to remove it.
In this rapidly growing world, we need a better way to monitor the internet and find out if someone is using your photos without permission. Therefore, I will share a few companies I've come across that can help you discover if anyone is using your work without permission. If you find that your work is being used, you can take action to prevent it.
Copytrack
Copytrack is a Germany-based company that uses sophisticated scanning equipment to detect website photo pirates. They then notify violators by sending emails and work out a licensing payment to the owner of the photo. If there is no response, the company can take action on your behalf and will do its best to win the case. The best part is that the company doesn't require any money upfront. Instead, if it wins the case, you will have to share the profit.
Visual Rights Group
In addition to Copytrack, there are other tools available to help protect your images and intellectual property. One such tool is Visual Rights Group. This company also offers image scanning technology to detect original images, as well as those that have been retouched and cropped. Another option is Permission Machine, which settles cases directly and splits damages 50-50 between the copyright holder and the company.
Pixsy
Pixsy is an online platform that offers image theft protection for creatives and image owners. Founded in 2014 by Daniel Foster, a photographer who was battling the problem of online image theft, Pixsy provides a suite of powerful tools and services to tackle the unauthorized use of images. The platform enables users to discover where and how their images are being used online, and provides a range of tools to address any unauthorized use.
Picture Protection Service
Picture Protection Service (PPS) provides assistance to major rights holders worldwide, including picture libraries, photo agencies, media businesses, publishers, and other large companies. PPS helps protect their image assets by enforcing their copyrights against unauthorized online commercial uses by infringers in the United States and Canada.
TinEye
TinEye Reverse Image Search.TinEye is another tool that offers a range of computer vision, image recognition, and reverse image search APIs and solutions to make your images searchable. Based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the platform appears to have more advanced image verification capabilities than some of the other tools mentioned previously. Regardless of which service you choose, it's important to protect your content and take action if you find that your images are being used without your permission.
